What Is AMH Testing?
Anti-müllerian hormone (AMH) is a protein produced by small follicles within the ovaries. AMH testing is used to evaluate ovarian reserve in women attempting to get pregnant. Higher AMH levels generally indicate a larger quantity of remaining eggs, while lower levels suggest diminished reserve. AMH testing has become a common tool in fertility evaluation because results remain relatively stable throughout the menstrual cycle. Impact on conception options
While AMH results can be helpful, results aren’t always black and white. Normal AMH levels do not always guarantee natural conception, and low levels do not eliminate the possibility of pregnancy. Rather, lower AMH may indicate a shorter reproductive window and should prompt earlier intervention if pregnancy does not occur. In some cases, fertility treatments such as in vitro fertilization (IVF)may be recommended based on AMH results and overall evaluation of the patient’s reproductive status.
